Summary
Product reviews are one of the strongest trust signals a store can show, and most stores collect and display them through a review app. We wanted two answers: which review apps stores actually install, and whether running them goes with slower pages.
On adoption, one app leads by a wide margin. Judge.me appears on 136,959 of 40.3M homepages, against 24,822 for Loox, 24,380 for Yotpo, 13,615 for Stamped and 4,636 for Okendo. That is about 5.5 times Loox. On speed, Shopify stores with a review app pass Core Web Vitals a little less often than stores without one, and stores with two or more apps pass slightly less often again.
What we measured
We used two separate samples, and the numbers from each should be read on their own.
Adoption counts cover 40.3M homepages crawled between January and October 2026. We counted homepages that load each app's vendor scripts.
Speed figures come from the HTTP Archive crawl of the top 1M sites from September 2026, on mobile, and cover Shopify homepages only: 47,127 of them. A store counts as running a review app when the crawl detects a product review app; third-party review sites and rating badges are not counted. We joined homepages to Chrome UX Report (CrUX) field data at the 75th percentile. A store passes Core Web Vitals when loading, responsiveness and visual stability are all good for real visitors.
The speed results are correlations, so speed is compared only between stores with a review app and stores without one.
Judge.me leads review app adoption by a wide margin
Across 40.3M homepages crawled since January 1, 2026, Judge.me is on 136,959. Loox is on 24,822, Yotpo on 24,380, Stamped on 13,615 and Okendo on 4,636.
The top 1M crawl gives a view of busier stores. On top 1M Shopify homepages in HTTP Archive's September 2026 crawl, Judge.me is detected on 14,266, Yotpo on 2,971, Loox on 2,807, Okendo on 1,581, Klaviyo Reviews on 1,439 and Stamped on 1,078. Judge.me still leads, and in this sample Yotpo edges ahead of Loox. Because the two samples are built differently, counts from one should not be compared directly with the other.
Half of top Shopify stores run a review app
51.0% of top 1M Shopify homepages (24,047 of 47,127) run a review app, and 1,819 run two or more.
Running two review apps at once is likely a leftover from switching providers in many cases, where the new app goes in and the old one is never fully removed. It can also happen when one app handles product reviews and another a separate widget.
Stores with a review app pass Core Web Vitals less often
Shopify stores with a review app pass Core Web Vitals 55.6% of the time, against 60.1% for the 23,080 without one. Their median LCP is 145 ms slower.
The JavaScript numbers show where some of that weight comes from. Median JavaScript is 2.51 MB on homepages with no review app, 3.40 MB with one and 4.06 MB with two or more. Stores with two or more review apps pass 54.9% of the time (1,781 with CrUX data). Median p75 LCP climbs from 1,843 ms with none to 1,983 ms with one and 2,033 ms with two or more.
Responsiveness moves less. Median p75 Interaction to Next Paint (INP) is 147 ms with no review app, 158 ms with one and 154 ms with two or more, all inside Google's good threshold.
Stores that install a review app may also run more apps of other kinds, so not all of this gap necessarily belongs to the review app itself.
Among the biggest stores the gap disappears
Among Top 100K Shopify stores, the difference is small: 36.0% pass with a review app (939 with CrUX data) against 37.8% without (818).
These larger stores are likely to have developers who load review widgets more carefully, for example only on product pages or after the main content has rendered. One possible reading is that the speed cost depends less on having reviews and more on how the widgets are set up.
What this means for your store
Reviews are worth showing. The goal is to show them without adding more weight than you need.
- Run one review app. If you have switched providers, remove the old app and any leftover theme code and script tags.
- Load review widgets only on the pages that show them.
- Keep the star rating near the product title light, and let the full review list load further down the page, after the main content.
- Reserve space for review widgets so they do not shift the layout as they load.
Then check your product pages in PageSpeed Insights before and after, so you know what the app costs in speed against what it earns in conversions.
