    Summary

Most WordPress sites hand their titles, meta descriptions, sitemaps and schema to an SEO plugin. We wanted to know which plugins sites actually run, and whether the answer changes for the most visited sites.

Across 8,811,077 WordPress homepages crawled in 2026, Yoast's signature appears on 2,636,314 (29.9%), All in One SEO's on 604,513 (6.9%) and Rank Math's on 320,833 (3.6%). In a separate sample of top 1M sites, Yoast still leads, but Rank Math's share is several times higher, because that sample detects plugins a different way.

    What we measured

We used two samples, and their numbers should be read separately.

The headline counts cover WordPress homepages crawled from 1 January to 14 October 2026. We counted the homepages that carry each plugin's own HTML comment or class signature. Signature counts miss any site that strips plugin comments from its HTML, so Rank Math in particular is likely undercounted.

The breakdowns come from the HTTP Archive crawl of the top 1M sites by Chrome traffic, September 2026, on mobile. That sample covers 113,804 WordPress homepages and identifies plugins with a detection method that does not depend on the HTML comment. Popularity tiers come from Chrome UX Report rank buckets.

    Yoast leads across WordPress homepages

Of 8,811,077 WordPress homepages crawled since 1 January 2026, Yoast appears on 2,636,314 (29.9%), All in One SEO on 604,513 (6.9%), Rank Math on 320,833 (3.6%) and SEOPress on 18,997 (0.2%), based on each plugin's own HTML signature.

Yoast's lead is large, and it holds in both samples we looked at, including the top 1M sites below.

Running Yoast and Rank Math together is rare. Only 3,798 WordPress homepages (0.04%) carry output from both Yoast and Rank Math. That is a good sign, since two plugins writing titles, canonicals and schema to the same page usually means duplicated tags.

    29.9%

Share of 8,811,077 WordPress homepages crawled in 2026 that carry Yoast's HTML signature.

Rank Math looks much bigger in the top 1M

In the HTTP Archive sample of 113,804 WordPress homepages in the top 1M sites, Yoast is on 47.4%, Rank Math on 16.4% and All in One SEO on 6.2%.

Rank Math's share there is about 4.5x higher than in the signature count. Most of that gap is likely detection, not popularity: HTTP Archive's method does not rely on the plugin's HTML comment, so it catches sites the signature count misses. The top 1M sample is also a different population, limited to the most visited sites. Treat the two sets of numbers as separate views, not as one trend.

Yoast and Rank Math hold up best on bigger sites

Within the top 1M sample, both leading plugins do best on the most visited WordPress sites. Yoast is on 52.6% of top 10K WordPress homepages (335 of 637), then between 46.7% and 47.8% in every lower tier, including 47.7% of sites ranked 500K to 1M (31,864 of 66,863).

Rank Math holds up best among bigger sites too. 18.7% of top 10K and 18.9% of 10K to 100K WordPress homepages use it, falling to 17.1% for 100K to 500K and 15.7% for sites ranked 500K to 1M. All in One SEO runs the other way, from 3.6% in the top 10K to 6.4% for sites ranked 500K to 1M.

About three in ten WordPress homepages show none of the three

30.3% of top-1M WordPress homepages (34,450 of 113,804) show none of Yoast, Rank Math or All in One SEO. That share rises from 25.1% in the top 10K to 30.5% for sites ranked 500K to 1M.

That does not mean those sites have no SEO setup. Some run SEOPress or another plugin, some handle titles and schema in the theme, and some strip plugin output in ways detection cannot see. But it does mean a sizable group of WordPress sites is not using any of the three most common plugins.

What this means for your site

The plugin you choose matters less than how it is set up. Any of the leading plugins can output good titles, canonicals, sitemaps and schema, and any of them can be misconfigured.

    • Run one SEO plugin, not two. Two plugins writing the same tags is a common source of duplicate titles and conflicting canonicals.
    • If you switch plugins, use the importer to carry over titles and descriptions, then check a sample of pages before and after.
    • Check the sitemap your plugin generates and make sure it lists only pages you want indexed.
    • Review the schema output on key templates with a structured data testing tool.
    • Keep the plugin updated along with WordPress core.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the most popular WordPress SEO plugin?

Yoast. Its signature appears on 2,636,314 of 8,811,077 WordPress homepages (29.9%) crawled in 2026, against 6.9% for All in One SEO, 3.6% for Rank Math and 0.2% for SEOPress.

What is Rank Math's market share?

Rank Math's signature appears on 3.6% of WordPress homepages crawled in 2026. In HTTP Archive's top 1M sample, which detects it differently, it is on 16.4% of WordPress homepages, so the signature count likely undercounts it.

How many sites run Yoast and Rank Math together?

Very few. Only 3,798 WordPress homepages (0.04%) carry output from both plugins.

Whichever plugin you run, a careful review of its settings is often where duplicate tags, bad canonicals and bloated sitemaps get fixed. Need help with this? See our technical SEO services.

Headline counts: each plugin's own HTML comment or class signature on 8,811,077 WordPress homepages crawled 1 Jan to 14 Oct 2026. Sites that strip plugin comments are missed, so Rank Math is likely undercounted. Breakdowns: a separate HTTP Archive Sept 2026 mobile sample of 113,804 top-1M WordPress homepages using a different detection method. The two samples use different methods and populations and should not be combined.
